31st Eritrean sports Festival in Atlanta

Eritrean Soccer Festival in Atlanta

With 20 adult soccer teams and 24 Youth soccer teams in different age groups including teams that had boys and girls the 31st annual Eritrean soccer tournament began on July 3rd 2016 and slated to end on July 9th, 2016. This year for the first time an open Bowling tournament was also organized with a Running competition as well as the usual Basketball tournament. It is to be recalled that this is the 4th time the City of Atlanta has hosted this annual event that began in 1985.

Some of the teams that made their way to Atlanta from outside of the USA included team Toronto, Canada and Team London known as Libi. London has shown some excellent display of talent and will be challenging for the championship along with Seattle, DMV (Washington DC Metro), & San Francisco Dahlak. The final game is to be played Saturday July 9th, 2016.

As in most years the participation of the event was large in numbers as the city of Atlanta once again embraced the thousands of Eritreans who make their way to this family gathering every summer. Dawit Haile represented the Eritrean embassy and this years Guest of honor was legendary soccer player Yemane Kahsay known by his nick name (Acheo). The event will conclude on Saturday with a special entertainer from Eritrea along with some local and national singers and musicians.
