Stanley Gibbons Group unfolds first printed stamps of Eritrea

Catalogues of philately by Stanley Groups branch in Guernsey, England, unfold first official stamps of Eritrea. Including to the first print on January 1 of 1893, the group catalogues even included collections from the Egyptians stamps, other communicative treasures, which were active in Massawa from 1869 until 1885 profoundly.

These collections that unfold Eritrea’s 148 years journey in philately domain details the lists of influential men of historical landscapes. Accordingly, the Eritrean stamp printed out Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, chemist, and a pioneer of electricity and power figure, in its 1927 line of chained publications. Jesus Christ in 1923, King George VI in the 1948-1951 series publications, and of King Umberto I image in-between 1893-1895, were some of the figures Eritrea’s stamps have assimilated in its over centuries chronicles.

In addition to the postal stamps, Stanley Gibbons also authenticated, on their January 16 of 2018, lists of Eritrea’s revenue stamps from duty payments, bills of exchanges and passports. Overprinted under the auspice of the Italian colonial forces in Asmara, the catalogues detail of Asmara’s resident compliance in paying the claimed revenue to the city’s governor office, with revenue stamps as means of legal endorsement by the concerned bodies.

By printing Fred Hollows, the friend of Eritrea, as final individual figure on post-independent Eritrea’s official stamp in 2003, the Stanley affirms that treasures that reflect marine diversities, national glories and similar reflections overwhelm post-independent Eritrea stamps.

It is recalled that penal code of 2015 of the state of Eritrea defined legal verdicts on postage stamps under article 219 and 220.
