Campaign in Support of Asmara’s Inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List

In 2005 the Government of Eritrea made an initial submission of the ‘The Historic Perimeter of Asmara and its Modernist Architecture’ for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Currently, the city is featured on the tentative list. The complete Nomination Dossier and the supporting documents on the candidature were submitted in February 2016.

The decision on inscription is expected to be made during the 41st session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be convened in Krakow, Poland, from 2 to 12 July 2017.

With an objective of promoting Asmara’s candidature and ensure a successful result, Eritreans living in Africa, Europe, the US, and other parts of the world have initiated a social media campaign in support of the Asmara’s Inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
