Eritrea Took Part in the 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development

An Eritrean Delegation led by Ambassador Araya Desta, Permanent Representative of the State of Eritrea to the AU and UNECA, participated in the 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development that was held from 13-16 July 2015, at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa.

The scope of the Conference included assessing the progress made in the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and the Doha Declaration, addressing new and emerging issues including in the context of the recent multilateral efforts to promote international development cooperation, and reinvigorating and strengthening the financing for development follow-up process.

The Conference adopted an Action Agenda for a global framework for financing development post-2015.

Eritrea Submitted Report on the Promotion of the Rights of the Child

The Government of Eritrea submitted a consolidated Report on the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC), covering the period from 2002-2013.

The 254-page Report submitted to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) describes in detail the measures undertaken by Eritrea to safe-guard and promote the rights recognized in the ACRWC and the achievements and challenges encountered in the implementation of the Charter.

The achievements include the expansion of access to education and the resulting many-fold increase in school enrollment of children; the significant improvements in child health and the drastic reduction in the incidence of diseases leading to a major decline in infant and child mortality, surpassing the targets set in the MDGs.
