Two arrested among 'most important traffickers on Libya route'

(ANSA) - Palermo, April 20 - Police on Monday uncovered an alleged international migrant trafficking ring and arrested, among others, Ermias Ghermay and Medhane Yehdego Redae, considered by authorities to be among "the most important human traffickers operating on the so-called Libyan route".
Investigators said "enormous profits" were made by citizens of Eritrea, Ethiopia, the Ivory Coast, and Ghana who were involved in the criminal organization that allegedly smuggled and illegally settled thousands of their fellow citizens as immigrants in Italy.
Ghermay, an Ethiopian citizen, had been a fugitive from justice since July 2014, and investigators believe he was the organizer responsible for an October 2013 shipwreck in which at least 366 died at sea off the coast of Lampedusa.
Investigators said they uncovered a criminal organization operating out of the provinces of Palermo, Agrigento, Catania and Milan in cooperation with groups working in Africa and Maghreb.
This organization gave logistical support to migrants to help them escape from migrant shelters, establish illegal residence in Italy, and then further their journey onward to northern European countries such as Norway, Germany and Sweden, investigators said.
The investigation revealed the organization allegedly transacted business totalling hundreds of thousands of euros through illegal channels.

Recruiters travel to Eritrea , South Africa, and to other popular destination where there are a lot of illegal immigrants in difficult situation. I don't have any problem in the story line, these tugs have to go, either Ethiopian or Eritrean. I care to Ethiopian as much as I care to Eritreans in this issue. I always remember when I was in very hard situation it was an Eritrean who gave me my first job when I landed in a foreign country. Either Ethiopian or Eritrean when someone is taking advantage of these two people I am not going to stand and watch. We had good times as people and bad times as people but humanity triumphs them all. Story is a good news but it has to be told as it is.

What matter I believe here is the one who let themselves in this drastic situation are also responsible! This is because the first mishap would have been enough which has scared us and confused or hate ourselves. Human lives are the most important thing and comes first. Money for both partners have made them out of control i.e. the giver and receiver are both stupid!

The education sectors are also responsible to give standard education to make them competent. Many of them have counted classes but not yet are to be competent. These days material is preferred more than human beings. This is sucide. Showoffing is nothing other than deceiving oneself. On the other hand I have heard those who live in some parts of the Arab countries are not working only decent job. They give themselves to their masters and they are being victims of the mistresses too! After going all these way they are trapped in such duties.
So awareness, quality education, woman respect and rights and
some vocational trainings is also necessary because many also are
slaughtered in addition to pershing in the sea.
Those standrad need a lot of agitation, lobbying and awareness of their
future would be more fruitful before suciding themselves. The responsibilities and commitment to eliminate these situation are expected from many people but those who deserts their country should think for themselves and help us too. These arrested individuals are going to spill the beans. They would provide a lot of information that leads to who is behind all past smuggling operations. We will find out soon either Woyne or Eritrean government has been benefitting from this. My guess is Eritrean government could be the one who cashed in because they have been in short supply of foreign hard currency all the time and always have a very good connection with Arab criminals and tugs since the liberation fighting day. The Arabs help EPLF to smuggle weapons and Eritrean and Arabs know exactly where to go and how to do thing for movement of good and people illegally. Wait and see. Of course Ginbot-7 has been part of this just to get some recruits for its mission and some Ethiopian oppositions who use propaganda to discredit Ethiopian government by undermining Ethiopia's social life and economy well being, do have a lot to do with this mess. ReplyDeleteHow about this? Since the Weyane wants to weaken Eritrea, it encourages whoever leaves Eritrea to get to Europe. The more young people leave, the better and the more money made for the Weyane. So, it needed to facilitate migration to Europe even if it meant sharing the money with some Eritreans. Then eventually, Weyane forces will be able to walk upto Ras Kasar without any resistance, like they have always been dreaming.
ReplyDeleteWhy wouldn't this be a plausible explanation? After all, the WEyane's were also guerrilla fighters. In fact they are the ones who would have had to wheal and deal with the "thugs" you are thinking about. Eritrean movements did not have to smuggle and trade arms in illegal manners (except from the point of view of Ethiopian governments) since they had friends among the Arab countries (Sudan). Although you have added Arabs to rub in the long held myth about Arabs helping Eritrea in, the truth is that the significance of Arabs was only in that they are in the neighborhood. Who else would it be if it is not an Arab country? At any rate in that sense the TPLF/Weyane also had Arab support!
This was early in Eritrean struggle for independence. Once the EPLF became a force to take seriously, it got its weapons by capturing tens of tanks and a similar number of artillery along with hundreds or thousands of smaller weapons! Ask Mengistu Hailemariam if you want! You should know how the EPLF works--no assistance is accepted with strings attached!
Rest the Arabs myth once and for all!
Check your facts by looking how many Eritreans in the military are involved because your are closer than I am to the Eritrean government. I can tell you this, I personal knew how many Eritreans crossed the Ethiopian- Eritrean border by paying 10,000 Nakfa ( a tender you can't give to a church as a offering because of its all Islamic symbols on it) to military individuals, in addition to the money paid to smugglers. These young Eritreans are trying to get away at any cost from Eritrea. You said I have no idea what the government of Eritrea is, not much but I know, it is oppressive, dictator, a bully, and corrupt. Eritrea on the other hand, anything that Ethiopia does is a war against Eritrea. For Ethiopia confrontation with Eritrea is a battle it can win, for Eritrea its a war. It means, the reaction and preparations how to respond to a situation to where each country considers as a threat from the other side is not proportional. One sees it as a battle and one sees it as a war. It is why the whole Eritrea is on lock down in an emergency state, trying to stop Ethiopia by all means available including participating in a smuggling ring. Eritrea threat to Ethiopia is peace of cake, can be done with in a week if necessary.

This is the main problem in Eritrea where everyone is suppose to be the same, think the same using only one brain, and fell, touch smell, breath the something. I visits Eritrean sites as much as they like to visit Ethiopia sites because what they do, say, relate to, has a very direct relation and social meaning to a lot of Ethiopians. A lot of Ethiopian and Eritrean alike don't visit Somalian , Kenyan or Ugandan web sites as much as we visits each others web site. The reason is simply as the same people, separated by political greed what Ethiopian do or Eritrean do has a social meaning that each of us understand and relate to. We understand each others felling, worship, food cloth, and language. We are the same people with some distinct similarities, that is why we are going back and forth to check out issues on each sides. There is very strong social connection between Ethiopia and Eritrean people then what politician and political groups tell us otherwise.

We do have our differences, but when it comes to Eritrea's sovereignty and its national security, we call for unity (one heart/hade libi, "hibret") and do not tolerate sell-outs, just as Ethiopians or people of other nationalities do! I do not know how old you are, various Ethiopian governments have claimed that "it would be a piece of cake" since well before 1974 but especially after the Derg. The Derg had well-trained soldiers. When it came to power in 1974, it sent militias called National Army in hordes, they were decimated. Jibo, Terrarraw, Nadew and many others commands consisting of thousands were especially trained by the Americans (previously) East Germans, the Soviet Union and North Korea. Where are they now?
