European Spring vis-à-vis Eritrea

European Spring vis-à-vis Eritrea

By Bereket Kidane

Spring is symbolic of starting new projects, sewing new seeds and coming forth with new ideas.  We’ve all heard of the Arab Spring.  Spring has finally come to Brussels as far as Eritrea is concerned.  There is definitely a “European Spring” going on with respect to Eritrea. After conducting extensive research and examining its policies toward the State of Eritrea, Europe seems to recognize the righteousness of the policies of the Government of Eritrea and wants to stop its destructive policies toward the State of Eritrea. It’s a welcome development because it was exactly what Ambassadors Herman Cohen and David Shinn recommended a couple of years back. Europe takes the lead first then America follows.

It’s a hopeful sign indeed. It’s possible that the Government of Eritrea may have adjusted some of its policies to bring about this thaw in tension with Europe, but it appears that it was mostly done at Europe’s own initiative, namely European Union Foreign Minister Lapo Pistelli’s outreach and one-on-one meetings and frank discussions with several government officials in Eritrea.Eritrea’s neighbor had engaged in massive propaganda and successfully tarnished Eritrea’s image, but the truth always wins out in Eritrea’s case. It won’t be long before Spring comes to Washington.

  3. Do not ask as to why; but Spring in Washington DC is already here, thanks to the fastness and dedication of Eritreans in defense of the HALAL MERIET.

Speak for your self brother. I know my future is bright :). The nation is only 25 years old, and it has made a progress that i personally have not done for my self on my 25 years of life, while Eritrea has to do it for 4-6 mill of people with more than half are uneducated. I am not going to hate that you do not support the GoE, because it is very normal to have different opinions when it comes to ruling government in a country, but here is my question, What are you doing about it??? Commenting or replying on here would not help at all.

  13. Agame Lemani Sammy. What's your real name? Gereanenya Geretsadkan. Why don't you go beg for spare change? Why don't you go say, "Brother can you spare change?"

Speak for yourself Agame guest. Agames may not have a future in Ethiopia but Eritreans do in their own country.

  15. Eritrea has too much too offer and the Europeans won't let China and Canada be the only ones to do business with us. Since they are hop skip away they have MUCH more interest than the usa to see fair play and honest dialogue.

  30. Gereanenya, You know Eritrea would have Agame Republic for lunch. But Eritrea cares about its children. It doesn't use them as Fenj Regachoch the way Tigray uses Oromo, Amhara and Gambella children.

  32. Ok let's cut the bullshit. Europe is only changing its policy to stop eritrean immigrants from entering the EU. That's it. They won't change their aggressive policy towards eritrea, they will still accuse us of supporting al shabaab etc. They want to have the cookie and eat it at the same time. Because when they realized that the government actually benefitted ten times by actually having Eritreans move abroad, get a job and send money back + 2%, they wanted a change.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eritrea did not care for her children in 1998-2000 and only cares now?

    ReplyDelete
  34. By commenting here I hope that it makes people understand that there is a difference in being a nationalist but yet not necessarily supporting the government.

  35. I guess that in your case, using 'mile' as a measurement, you must have incredible smell sensory perception and are able to smell more than 6,000 miles away. You guys are bad. An Eritrean gives a contrary position to your and you automatically utter 'Agame Lemani' from your mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Did you see Ethiopians and other Africans Burn alive in south Africa? Hate can cause havoc on humanity, I believe form your post name you are from Tigray, and I believe you are referring the unfortunate conditions Eritreans face in Sinai in your sarcastic comments, will this be a cause for jubilation for Eritreans? absolutely not!!! be human.

    ReplyDelete
  37. mw you are right. Please excuse me for a comment in bad taste. I am not from Tigray but that is besides the point. My comment was wrong. Sincere apologies.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You can afford to be OK with its output since you do not even live in Eritrea

    ReplyDelete
  39. Then why are you not in Eritrea?

    ReplyDelete
  40. We do not use mile as a measurement in Eritrea

    ReplyDelete
  41. What children? Most just like you have already left Eritrea

    ReplyDelete
  42. Easy for you to say so as your enjoying your Italian pasta far from home.

  43. Do you know that a 25 year old young man/women is expected to adult enought? But in case of our maffia government, they behave as 4 years old even thought they are 25. Dont forget we have now offically president for life.
