  1. This is a step in the right direction. In fact, I am of the
opinion that all rural villages in Eritrea, including those very near to
Asmara, should get their energy from alternative sources (solar, wind etc…)
instead of being linked to the national grid. The national grid should be
reserved only for major cities, secondary towns and industrial and
    agro-industrial sectors.

  2. All is good, when is about sustainable energy, safeguard our nature, the nature we live in, the nature from which we get our food, Eritrea is a symbol of respecting nature indeed. I remember back to 1994/5 when the GoE abolished the plastic bag in the country. The euro-zone did this on 2013 except some scandinavian countries on 2000.
In Africa, Eritrea is the first country to apply this task, while Rwanda the 2nd to ban on 2004. This tells a lot in a matter of awareness of clean energy, eco-sustainable, environmental impact topics.

  4. I can not agree more I missed one thing though, what is th energy value of the project? It means how much energy will produce after the construction of 73 photovoltaic system ?

  5. Sorry, I can’t answer your question as I don’t have access
to the project document. However, I have seen projects of rural electrification using solar energy, in Latin America in the early 90th. The initial cost could be a bit high, but not as high as connecting villages to national grid. The operating cost is very low, nearly zero. The benefit, both economically and socially, is enormous. Many rural communities in Eritrea have already started using solar energy to electrify their dwellings. In fact, there is very high demand in the country for alternative source of energy like solar; and some creative minds have started business to satisfy this demand.
