President Isaias Afwerki's Interview with National Media

In an interview held in the port city of Massawa with state media, President Isaias Afwerki discussed national matters.

During his two hour interview, the president addressed a number of issues, including agriculture, economic migration, electricity supply, housing, and political developments.

In regards to food security, the president says the country's strategy will include improved infrastructures. He added the need for intensifying irrigation schemes.

"Agriculture productivity cannot be sustained by rainfed agriculture, hence intensifying our irrigation schemes is a major task." Said President Isaias.

Afterwards, the president shifted his focus on economic migration, saying, "Despite conspiracy to lure Eritrean youth, this generation has ascertained responsibility on the country's future,".

"I don't want to brag...but our youth are doing miracles that's incomparable in this world." The president added.

He also cautioned for would-be economic migrants to consider the miserable situations of those who already left the country find themselves in.

"How many of those migrated have secured a career? A long term achievement? They are held in concentration camps in Israel."

The president went on to underline the need for the country to meet its own electricity demands domestically. He explained it is imperative that economically significant sectors should have sufficient supply of electricity.

Shifting his focus on housing shortages, the president said, "housing demand will be tackled through the National Housing Scheme focusing on prime economic zones and disadvantaged groups"

In regards to political development, the president underscores the need for a strong and fully functioning PFDJ is the central part of Eritrea's future and redefining functional processes.

"Reorganization of our structures is not about redistribution of human resources; it is redefining functional processes." President Isaias said.

Even though the question you asked was to Abebe, I would like to reply on behalf of him (as Eritrean).
I have listened for 20 years for the mad man without substance.
People have asked about justice, equality, prosperity, democracy, freedom of speech, freedom to live free without fear... But the mad man has refused to listen.
I just want you to be competent by asking the just following question
    1. Why don't we have constitution as a nation?

  13. Yes you are right my brother.

To resolve the economic problems of our people; we must build a society independent of foreign-aid. If we do not rely on our own energy and resources to solve our problems, economic and otherwise, we will find ourselves depending politically on someone, which will hinder us in waging our national liberation struggle. Our
principle of self-reliance is based on these fundamental considerations, which are elaborate by the Lion of Nakfa. Sooner or later we will get there.

Long Live to Eritrean Youth and People!!!!!!!!!

  14. So your strive to life is ONLY this one thing you call, "constitution"? let me ask you this what does constitution mean to you or how do u define it as an African? What do you think about "self actualization"? where do you think as a nation or even as African's lie there? What should you really demand first? For me, we are still at lower part of the pyramid, we need food security, shelter, water, education and as such. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Think instead of just repeating what Issays says........don't forget the same leader who talk trash about America now is the one who supported the invasion of Irak in 2003 when the whole africa were refused to do so (just google it if you dont believe me).

Why do you think half of the population is on exodus ? The main reason people are leaving the country is they don't see any future in there. Thus my approach is realistic, as the saying goes "Rome was not built in a day" and if we all can work together we will have a dynamic generation. Plus, what do u think could have done any better than what it is? Let's see how you are trying to challenge this? What would have done differently? Give me some constructive suggestion as i am curious to what you have to say.

  35. Lela,
Thank you for asking that. I am not one of those who want to sell our soverginity for highes bidder, we should defend our borders from the Woyanes. But at the same time, we can not blame every failure on the border issue, and don´t forget we are not the only nation in the world with border issue.....India/Pakistan had it for decades and still unresolved and our case could be the same. I don´t understand what does having a rule of law and constitutional government to do with boder issue and why can we implement the constitution?. Do we really need never ending national service, why can´t we time limit it or having a rotation plan where those who servered most leave it as new once enter, and this should be done every year. Plus why do we have to have the same guy leading us for almost 40 years (pre/post independece) forget the oppostion, why can´t he hand over to some one even within HGDEF, don´t we have people with leaderskip skills?. Did you know that we don´t even have a vice president since 2001? And what would happed if Issays dies suddenly?. With all weapesn in civilan hands and no clear succession plan we are doomed for civil war. I could write several pages about what should be improved but lets leave it here for now.

That is how all of them try to explain the nature of backward still in the jungle mentality of shabian dogs .

Thats a lie. Issias even stated directly afterwards on an interview with Reuters that he had no idea why Eritrea was among the Coalation of the Willing and did not support USA invasion of Iraq. USA just put Eritreas name without any questions.

USA:s foreign minster Rumsfeld did actually travel to Eritrea around 2002, but Eritrea would cooperate with USA fight against terror but refused to cooperate with Ethiopia and Ethiopa said the same about Eritrea. So USA decided once and for all to officially choose side and refused to assist Eritrea on its quest for Badme.

Which makes Eritreas decision to support the USA invasion of Iraq even more illogical.

    Stop spreading lies plz.

How the hell are we supposed to have any form of democracy when we are defending ourselves against sanctions and external agression?
What did we do to earn all this problems?

Do you hear reports about people dying in Eritrea? Did you hear reports about people dying when free press was allowed? Or when the Red cross and other organsations were there?

Lets speculate that Eritrea actually DID support Al-Shabaab... But on the other hand Rwanda supported M23 rebel groups, INVADED(!) congo in the 90s (with Uganda).. Did they get any sanctions? HELL NO! Why? Because they are an U.S ally?

Did Eritrea get any sanctions for illegaly entering Sudan to fight extremist groups in the early 90s? Did they get any sanctions for starting a war with Yemen? NO! Why? Because Sudan and Yemen were enemies of U.S, and eritrea practically were an U.S ally!

Eritrea got away with alot of shit in the 90s.. and as soon as we were declared an enemy of the west (for refusing aid) , we got punished no matter WHAT we did!!!

Next time, we will probably get another sanction for just building a hospital (they will say that Al-Qaeda built it, and has an underground chemical plant of some kind..)

  54. Our country helped destabilize Somalia, causing a volatile situation in the Gulf of Aden that has implications for the global economy. It's not only the West, for example Russia actively supported resolution 1907 (the Russians also have forces in the Gulf of Aden). Furthermore, the dreadful conditions in Eritrea have caused a massive exodus of migrants from such a small country, leading to the disasters we know all too well in the Mediterranean. Other than Rwanda being a US ally, they are also having some noticeable development, which is more than one can say about isolated Eritrea.

We need to stop blaming other countries for our situation. It would be good if Ethiopia finally accepted the Algiers Agreement, but we wouldn't be in this situation if we didn't have an incompetent, criminal regime ruling Eritrea. That's what has to change, since they show no sign of wanting to change, still giving the same empty promises.

  72. You lier animal, 20 years ago we didn't start from zero. Most infrustructures were in tact, all min industries such as Meloti, coke, Merengi, textile (baratolo)..... Were functioning. In every corner you would see the hard working Eritreans run their small business such as shoe manufacturing, sweater production...... The airport was in tact as well as other institutions. The collapse of Eritrea happened after 2001 when the Moron took full control of the nation. Look at as now - the only business you see in the street of the capital city is " inda Duquan". The entrepreneurship is dead since the ignorants are leading the country.

  73. You must be living under a mountain. Eritrea was killed and buried long long ago. Bankrupcy would be a step up from the graveyard :)

And all those Eritrean living in Europe and other places, you are hypocrites, why don't you try to be in Assab and other places for years with nothing but wrong indoctrination, and with out any education or proper job, everything forced down to your throat, etc... The main problem of woyane is inferiority complex and identity crises. Keep your comments for you and try to find your identity somewhere else I am a proud citizenship.
