Eritrea to host the African Cycling Championship (Nov. 8 - 13)

Nov. 6, 2011 (ASMARA) – The 7th annual African Continental Cycling Championships (ACCC) will be held in Eritrea from November 8th -13th.

Riders from Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Tanzania and as many as fifteen other nations are expected to take part in this competition.

The Red Sea State has some of Africa's top cyclist that are favored to do well when competition commences this Tuesday afternoon.

Last year's ACCC in Kigali, Rwanda was dominated by Eritrean riders. Rising Eritrean star Daniel Teklehaimanot led the pack with a hat-trick by securing victories in the road race, as well as having the fastest individual and team time trials.

Additionally, after winning first and second places in last year's ACCC, both Daniel Teklehaimanot and Meron Russom qualified to take part in the 2012 Summer Olympic games in London.

The winners of the women's competition in Eritrea will also qualify to take part in the London Olympic games, while in the men’s division, riders will play for crucial points and overall African rankings, as well as a sizable 1st-3rd place cash incentives.

  1. You have very good Champions, you must find sponsors to make some major competition in Europe and why not the Tour de France the most beautiful race in the world, I often see your riders during training on Asmara, Eritrea Go...
