President Isaias Afwerki arrives in Uganda

Senior Eritrean and Ugandan Officials discuss improving relations.

August 16, 2011 (ERITREA) – President Isaias Afwerki arrived in Uganda for a three-day visit at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni.

President Afwerki was received at State House in Entebbe by President Museveni and received an honorary 21-gun salute from members of the Ugandan Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF).

"Eritrea is one of the strategically vital countries to the stability of the region especially in the Horn of Africa and the wider global agenda.", said Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa.

In a closed door meeting, the two heads of state discussed regional stability, as well as enhancing bilateral relations.

"I have learnt a lot from President Museveni and I will listen to him and come to understand of regional issues,” President Afwerki said.

President Yoweri Museveni described his discussions with President Afwerki as being very good and highlighted further discussions will take place over the next two days regarding bilateral relations and strengthening ties.

"We discussed strategic and political issues in the region and our ministers are developing various bilateral agreements. Apart from the political and security issues, there are other issues of cooperation in the region including in trade, exchange in education, regional flights etc,” Museveni said.

It is to be recalled, the last time the two heads of state met was in 2007, at Massawa, Eritrea.

  2. ^^NO. Eritrea is, that's the only reason why Uganda would even get this much attention. Junior diplomats in Obama's administration have become unhinged with their obsession with Eritrea.
