Eritrea to have the fastest growing economy in 2011 - Economist


In the 2011 country by country Economist report, it stated Eritrea will have the World's fastest growing economy in 2011, overtaken resource rich Qatar.

Eritrea will overtake Qatar as the world's fastest-growing economy, as production begins at the country's first operational goldmine. (Economist)

The report highlighted that 11 of the top 20 fastest-growing economies will continue to come from developing countries, most of which are found in Sub-Sahara Africa, and much of their growth will be stimulated exploitation of their natural resources.

In regards to the world's worst-performing economies, the Economist points to western Europe, which are expected to have 12 of the top 20 slowest-growing economies in 2011.

World GDP growth (using market exchange-rate weights) will slow from 3.5% in 2010, to 2.5% in 2011, the report added.
