The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) would like to congratulate the people and Government of Eritrea on the lifting of the Security Council Resolution 1907 (2009). Ethiopia would also like to thank the United Nations Security Council for responding to its call to lift the sanctions imposed on the State of Eritrea.

Ethiopia congratulates Member States of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on this positive milestone and appreciates their cooperation and contribution to the lifting of the sanctions as well as the progressive changes that are occurring in the region. 

The lifting of the sanctions will have far-reaching effects in improving the stability of the Horn of Africa region and in building a lasting peace and normalization of relations among the countries in the region. Ethiopia reiterates its commitment to ensuring regional peace, development and cooperation working hand-in-hand with the State of Eritrea and other neighbouring nations. The lifting of the sanctions is a significant step towards deepening the economic, social and cultural ties the sisterly nations of Ethiopia and Eritrea enjoy. It will further enhance the collaborative gains that have been achieved in the region over the last few months.
