The small African nation of Eritrea is filled with cyclists and cycling fans, which is a legacy of its colonisation by Italy in the early twentieth century. For several years now, Eritrean cyclists have been racing in top-flight European tours, after years of training in the thin air and on the steep mountains around the capital Asmara.
