Eritrea's martyrs day in the city of Toronto and Environs concluded successfully

Toronto, June 20th 2016 - Eritrean Community Members in the City of Toronto and Its Environs commemorated martyrs day with patriotic zeal at Etienne Brule Park in the City of Toronto, with hundreds of Eritreans gathered together to honor our martyrs day organized by ENHOC. Present at the remembrance, Eritrea’s Consul General to Canada, Consulate Staff, Religious leaders and the Eritrean community members.

The tribute began with a moment of silence in memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for Eritrea's Freedom and Sovereignty. The program included walking lead by the youth, speeches, poetry and songs.

Eritrea's Consul General to Canada Mr. Teumezghi Tesfa, Officially opened the ceremony, during his address to Eritrean Community members, he reminded that today we remember our fallen martyrs who sacrificed to liberate the country from the cuffs of oppression and all those who have fallen safeguarding the hard won independence from the continues threats of our enemies! It is with heavy hearts that we also remember the 18 precious souls we’ve lost in the recent unprovoked TPLF’s attack on June 12 and 13 of 2016. The Consul further stated that the prevailing peace and stability in the country is the outcome of the heavy sacrifices paid, and stressed that every citizen should take the responsibility to assist children and families of martyrs.

During the event which added color was the major involvement of children and youths, several poems where presented by the youth and community members in honors to our martyrs. Further, around 30 community members who have join the martyrs walk from the design that represent Eritrea’s 6 zones for 30 kms long starting from Kennedy station to Kipling Station on June, 18 2016 to remember our martyrs a path of comradeship with high energy.

Furthermore, the Community members expressed readiness to step up efforts towards bestowing the national values to the young generation, while encouraging them to support families of fallen heroes. Eritrean nationals that resides in the city of Toronto and environs concluded the martyr’s commemoration by reiterating the readiness to honor the trust fund of our fallen heroes and to depict the true image of their homeland.

In another news, In the City of Winnipeg and Regina also held a martyrs day commemoration with great honor.
