Eritrea is the only nation in East Africa not implicated in the global CIA torture network

Eritrea is the only nation in East Africa not implicated in the global CIA torture network, according to Senate Intelligence Committee's report released today.

The report finds Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya and Somalia have all unlawfully facilitated CIA torture of suspects alleged to have ties with extremist groups.

The study, distilled from more than six million CIA documents, also says the agency consistently misled Congress and the Bush Administration about the harsh methods it used and the results it obtained from interrogating suspects.

After examining 20 case studies, the committee found that torture “regularly resulted in fabricated information”, said committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, in a statement summarizing the findings. She called the torture program “a stain on our values and on our history”.

The investigators concluded that the "enhanced interrogation techniques" did not provide any worthwhile intelligence. It also indicates that CIA officers themselves repeatedly questioned whether the interrogations were useful.

  7. It is the Liassez-fare style of Obama leadership that created this type of insanity, good example , the UN ambassador Susan Rice on Eritrea's sanctions it was her own personal and solely decision, same on the Horn and Ethiopian affairs in particular , it is run by CIA operatives, and it is individuals on personal decisions level, otherwise this the so called enhanced torture crime, doesn't represent American values and morality

  17. Rora,
Besides what you have said, the fascistic regime in Eritrea is an expert on torture and killings.

  18. Come on Wed Adal! You are better than that.
Soon you will hear your dictator shall accept that they have prisoners of war from Djibouti, that he has been denying all along.
Is he a puppet of Qatar?

  19. Don't be too sure about that. When push came to shove they did it. For centuries they have been so far away from the rest of the world (geographically). They a lot of other things going well for them that made it possible for them not to use torture. Every human being has the capacity to harbor evil if they allow it. You cannot generalize it as a result of values and morality. If it were for that why have they caused so much death and destruction around the world, not only today but also in the past--Latin America, Africa, Asia, . . .

Besides past tortures may not have been reported. Which one is better, assassination or torture. None of them. They have done at least one of them!

  20. It very surprising this pieces of information is deduced from the report. I think some people are very desperate for good news about Eritrea. The report does not mention Eritrea neither for torture nor for lack of it. It means there is no information whether there is torture or not in Eritrea. If data is not available because a country doesn't allow a file to be complied it does not mean there is no incident. one thing is for sure, dictators are known for torturing their people, so Eritrea is not the exception. It is very sad you guys come out and rejoice about a report that does not mention Eritrea by name about torture, all we knew that living in Eritrea by itself is a torture, as evidenced by the number of people leaving the country. Very recently about 6,000 people crossed from Eritrean to a second country to save their live.

  22. Mr.
"a report that does not mention Eritrea by name" Read again. It is precisely that! That is what people are talking about. Eritrea is not mentioned means that Eritrea did not participate with the CIA because it did not! This is no secret given the relationship between the US and Eritrea for the past 15 years, at least. I do not think you read it.

Meanwhile, people are rightly criticizing the hypocrisy of the US government when it comes to criticizing and writing yearly reports about other countries. That way they had lost credibility more than ever! The move to publish this report which it is said to have included the examination of 6,000,000 documents (and does not name Eritrea at all) and probably has more to tell than was revealed, is to appear or to regain credibility. Now, the organization's bosses are claiming that it was useful to gain valuable information. Well according to the principle THEY preach, it is still a big no, no! However, we all know what their agents do around the world--assassinations, causing conflicts, causing unrest, sabotaging etc. etc. . . and probably torture through third parties just as they have done this time. The only difference is probably that it is at a large scale now along with other similarly hypocrite countries.

If you have the passion for it, you would find it worthwhile to investigate and learn why torture is done and is resorted to by different entities and how it might be avoided. Otherwise do not jump to advance your own agenda.
