Eritrean Summer Festivals 2014

Every summer Eritreans at home and abroad organize Festivals that feature, among others, artistic and cultural shows, traditional cuisine, exhibitions, sporting competitions, and seminars.

The Festivals celebrate the Eritrean people’s rich culture and history as well as portray their patriotism and unity. The Festivals play a crucial role in transfer-ring the Eritrean people’s values and heritage to the young generation, and in strengthening the ties of the Eritrean Diaspora with the homeland. They also serve as fora for direct interactions between government offi-cials and the public.

Tens of thousands of Eritreans and friends of Eritrea attended this year’s Summer Festivals. The highlights of the Festival season include the:

  • National Festival in Asmara,
  • Youth Festival in Sawa,
  • Bologna Festival in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Eritrean Festivals in the Italian city,
  • U.S. East Coast Festival in Washington D.C
  • Scandinavian Festival in Stockholm,
  • Canadian Festival in Toronto, and
  • U.S. West Coast Festival in Oakland
