Russian Diplomats Surprised by Eritrea abstaining on UN Crimea Vote

Russian President Vladimir Putin

Leaked Audio Shows Russian Diplomats Surprised by Eritrea abstaining on UN Crimea vote

A leaked audio recording of a phone call allegedly catches two Russian ambassadors discussing their disappointment with Eritrea abstaining on a UN resolution declaring Crimea's referendum invalid.

The recording involves Igor Nikolvaevich Chubarov and Sergey Viktorovich Bakharev, the Russian ambassadors to Eritrea and Zimbabwe and Malawi, respectively.

The call begins with Chubarov congratulating Bakharev on Zimbabwe’s vote against the UN resolution. The diplomats then expressed their surprise and disappointment with Eritrea abstaining from the vote:

IGOR NIKOLAEVICH CHUBAROV: My congratulations! Your country (Zimbabwe) demonstrated very, let's say, right understanding about the situation on Ukraine.

SERGEY VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: And as for yours (Eritrea), they have surprised, somehow. Are they f****** crazy?

CHUBAROV: And my Eritrea, as you can see, only abstained.

BAHAREV: It's very strange.

CHUBAROV: Indeed, yesterday I talked to the Minister. I said: "Well, how did it happen?". "No, we're, of course, with all our heart"....(laughing). And your guys were f****** good. The only one on the continent, think of it! Oh, no, Sudan as well.

BAHAREV: Yes, certainly, Sudan as well. It's strange that they showed weakness.

CHUBAROV: Well, never mind. All the same I'll make them recognize South Ossetia and (laughing) neighboring Abkhazia. I'll f****** make them do it (laughing).

The vote by the United Nations on a resolution declaring Crimea's referendum invalid passed the non-binding resolution with 100 votes in favor, 11 against, and 58 abstentions.

Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, North Korea, Nicaragua, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe joined Russia in rejecting the document.

  1. Didn't Russia and china abstained when UN voted to sanction against of Eritrea? Why is Russia get surprised by Eritrean abstaining !!!
If Russia did stand 100% on Eritrean side, Eritrea would have voted in favor to Russia.

  2. I am proud of PFDJ's wise decision to abstain. This is a clear message to all terrorist super-powers (aka USA, Russia, Israel, England, France, etc.), we are nor your house niggers that you can count on our vote for your dirty work, although third-world votes are effectively meaningless. What was USSR trying to do from 1977 to 1991 alongside Ethiopia? Were not they trying to crush the dream of every Eritrean? Well, that's when you lost a potential friend. Had you stayed on the right side of history, you might have been rewarded today. The f**ing Russians are known to drop you like hot potatoes when things get ugly ... just ask Fidel Castro and the Cubans. Welcome to EPLF/PFDJ/ERITREA principle.
    Eritrea is not for sale.

  3. Political prostitution soean't bring about sustainable relations or friendlies. The Eritrean gov't, now as a government and before independence as a liberation struggle organization, is on the side of the Palestinian case agains Israelis favor.

  13. Rest of the Translation---

A leaked conversation between two Russian ambassadors appears to show the diplomats joking about the crisis in Ukraine and the possibility of future incursions in the United States and Eastern Europe.

The video posted under the YouTube account “Michael Berkan” involves Igor Nilokaevich Chubarov and Sergey Viktorovich Bakharev, the Russian ambassadors to the African nations Eritrea and Zimbabwe and Malawi, respectively.

The call begins with Chubarov congratulating Bakharev on Zimbabwe’s vote against the UN resolution that declared Crimea’s referendum invalid. Chubarov expressed surprise that Eritrea abstained from the vote.

After exchanging pleasantries, Chubarov then jokes he is trying to drive home the message to the EU Heads of Mission that the Crimea referendum and further Russian imperialism is only the beginning:

IGOR NILOAKAEVICH CHUBAROV: Now I have a very simple task, for the time being I’m saying the only key thing to those EU HoMs. I’m repeating: “Guys, we’ve taken away Crimea but it’s not the fucking end. [laughter] In the future we’ll take away your [laughter] fucking Catalonia, Venice, as well as Cattleland (Scotland), and Alaska. And we’ll never rest content with that” [laughter].

SERGEY VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: At first stage we will.

CHUBAROV: Agreed, only at first stage, and later we’ll think it over. All those fucking limitrophes, e.g. Latvia, Estonia, and other Europeans as well as Romanians, and Bulgarians, we’ll kick their asses in the right direction – where they have to be.

VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: Oh no, it’s better not to touch them, we are not going to kick them in. It’ll be better for us to disturb “Californialand,” “Miamiland,” that sort of desolated regions [laughter]

CHUBAROV: You’re right, there’s practically fucking 95 percent of our citizens in “Miamiland” [laughter]

    VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: Exactly.

CHUBAROV: We have full right to hold a referendum.

VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: As well as “Londonland!”

CHUBAROV: Yes certainly, you’re right. We’ll leave for a while Romanians and Bulgarians, let them stay so far in the EU [laughter]

VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: Together with the Baltic shit.

In a slightly more serious tone, Chubarov then tells his comrade that the EU told him Russia should take back Romania and Bulgaria:

CHUBAROV: By the way, the EU HoD and I recently had a chat, you know, about all kinds of things, just being lost in the crowd, and he asked: “Listen, take back those Romania and Bulgaria.” “Definitely, no,” I answered. “Guys, nothing will come of it.”

VIKTOROVICH BAHAREV: Enjoy yourself with all that stuff [laughter]

The leaked recording of the Russian officials follows the YouTube disclosure of a candid conversation between the State Department’s Victoria Nuland and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt.

  29. The analogy is improper, i would love to remind you, there are GPS, data assigned already to the security council that can't be changed (these coordinate datas are on the hand of un, eu, usa, au, ethiopia and Eritrea). But not yet fixed on the ground, (demarcated i mean).

  40. Actually virtual demarcation is done. Pillars need to be placed on our border. It shall happen once they vacate our land.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey vic let me tell you the truth from my point of view. Its not a matter of abstaining or not abstaining. Its a matter of truth. The people of eritrea and its government believes in truth. Let me take you back to 1960s. Eritrea annexed to be part of the Begger country ethiopia while we deserve to be free country, and this costed us thousands of precious lives of our beloved brothers and sisters to become a free country.
So if eritrea was fighting against annexing, no one will expect eritrea to support Russia while it is annexing cremea.

  42. Rora, please just for a minute take your brain out of your ass and re-read what you have commented!!!!!
I say this with full respect!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just curious was the news of a visit by Isaias's foreign minister to Moscow two weeks ago then a lie? was it fabricated? did they discuss any thing about Eritrea - or was it just a mafia to mafia chat?
Russia vetoed every previous sanction and unfair judgments against Eritrea?? - did the HEGDEF "diplomats" really hold a meeting with their Russian mafia counterparts? or maybe the highly esteemed delegation was there to enjoy free vodka? if they perfected the fabrication of that visit - I can only say HEGDEF has mastered Photoshop by leaps and bounds?

I would be surprised if any of the western countries even acknowledged the existence of the poor Africans - if the African dictators had any brains in them, they would have walked out instead of abstaining on issues that does not even concern them! Non of their votes count anyway!! Do they really think now the west will let them of the hook?

    ReplyDelete
  44. This way or the other, in this world it is about how formidable you are militarily that matters.
If you are weak you will be eaten alive if not you will be respected. No matter what the west said and no matter how unjustified Russian annexation is i think they will not do s...t against Russia.

    ReplyDelete
  45. True Yonas, i miss the "virtual demarcation" term, we get the coordinates of all the border, were the pillars would be placed..thanks

  46. Unfortunately the votes count for the propaganda war much less for the Ukraine or Crimea or the facts on the ground. This is all about who has the moral high ground regardless how the votes were obtained (blackmail, threat ...). Am sure the US ,Europe (UK,France,Germany) now will say to Russians look most of the world doesn't support you you only have 10/11 votes/countries that support yo u and so goes the story.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If Ruskies want Eritrea's vote, they should pay us with hundreds of Su35 and icbm, if not wmd. No pay, no vote.
