Eritrea Appoints New Chief of Staff and Minister

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki appoints Woldemikael Abraha as the minister of Regional Governments and Philipos Woldeyohannes as the Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Defense Forces, a senior official said.

The appointment of Major General Philipos comes less than two weeks after the former Chief of Staff, Major General Geregiher Andemariam 'Wuchu', passed away from natural causes.

The government says recent appointments are part of an ongoing restructuring and reorganization process at all levels of administrations, ministries, PFDJ bodies and national associations to ensure political dynamism and effective management.

  5. you said "these appointments are part of an ongoing restructuring" but it does not give any sense ,if philphos is the new chief of staff because wuchu is dead and the same for the minster of regional governments his predecessor been dead for almost a year, first this is not restructuring it is like the same wine different bottle, second our hope of restructuring the system depends on act of nature such as diabetic, liver,HIV and massive heart attacks,so Mr papagallo think twice before you post something totally manufactured by hegdefawiyan

  6. How is it considered "reorganization and restructuring" when all they are doing is shuffling around the same people that have been in power for 23 years? Bring new faces, retire old ones, include leadership from the civil society, then talk about reorganization and restructuring.

  8. Dear readers, and specially those who knowingly disagree for principle or have some how HATE Eritrean interest, i ask why you come and spend your time Here? it's like going to the cinema knowing the plot that you don't like. You don't see it's irrational? Or more stupid? Or your intentions is to divert Me or Us in to some game you think we fall? Never..we have Our principles, Our own ideas, We do not have sponsors, We are not servants, so please stay away from our path..Your comments are just trash, nothing that one can gain from it..

  9. I like these nominations, major General Philipos is a hero fighter Since Nakfa and great military strategist.

As to nomination of woldemichael abraha as a minister of local governement, it's good in fact the minister of local government is acting head of state when the president is away.

  11. Congratulation MG. Phillipos and Minister Weldemichael Abraha
Ertirea is blessed that it has leaders men and women who deeply believe that Eritrea sovereignty and liberty must be protected.
These two heroes fought bravely in many battles and liberated Eritrea under most horrific condition in history. Independence has not come easy for Eritrea. A 30 years long and deadly battles can attest that. MG. Phillipos and Minister Weldemichael heroism and why they fought for Eritrea independence and have been defending the sovereignty and liberty of Eritrea must never forgotten.

  19. :-) Thanks for clarifying my point even further, assigning positions to the people who have been in leadership for 40-50 years is not "reorganization and restructuring". Read before replying - its a good practice!

Congratulations Major General Philipos Woldeyohannes on your appointment to a position of high honor and responsibility!
You are also a true jigna as General Wuchu was. I have full confidence in you that you'll carry out your duties and responsibilities superbly.
Also congratulations to all TRUE Eritreans and friends of Eritrea for having jeganu brothers and sisters like General Philipos that are able and willing to sacrifice on our behalf.
As for the rag tag personalities that are only nominally Eritreans and their Woyane and Western friends and collaborators, dem tehaleba!

  22. I think the Eritrean army looks well organized while the Ethiopia army is being changed into a peace keeping core. The Ethiopia army stretched to the limit by peace keeping and missions to neighboring countries. The south Sudan crisis is putting another problem to Ethiopia army. In terms of strength the Eritrean army is in better shape than the Ethiopian army. The Ethiopia army is also insufficiently funded because Ethiopia is taking large projects that sucked out the military budget. Strategically Eritrean seems in a better position to flex its military muscle. At this point Eritrea has the advantage, military, over Ethiopia and they can use this strength to take some Ethiopian territory to bargain for Badme. This is the only way Eritrea is going to get its territory back from Ethiopia and respect from Ethiopia for good. The military advantage seems to tilt toward Eritrea when we factor in Egypt's position favoring Eritrea.

  23. :-) - this kind of rhetoric is what caused Eritrea to lose Badme albeit after shedding so much blood.
